Marquita Smith-Straus (she/her)

Marquita is a Black social worker and birth professional with over 10 years of experience  working with clients. Throughout her career, Marquita has served as a full spectrum doula (birth,  postpartum, and bereavement), breastfeeding peer counselor, childbirth educator, perinatal  bereavement group facilitator, and trained as a midwife. 

As a clinical social worker, Marquita aims to inspire and empower people to show up  authentically, while fiercely advocating for those navigating spaces that are not traditionally occupied by people of color. Her social work specializations and passions are rooted in the areas  of perinatal stress, anxiety, postpartum depression, perinatal/neonatal grief and loss, and the  LGBTQI community. 

Marquita grew up in Atlanta, GA, but spent 8 years living in the Rainier Valley. She is currently  enrolled at Columbia University for her MSW and received her BSW from FAMU, an HBCU in  Tallahassee, FL. She loves to travel, listen to records on vinyl, and spend time with her partner  and tiny humans. 

In the little spare time she has left, Marquita is also a digital storyteller, photographer, and  content creator. She has a passion for exploration, learning, and capturing unique stories and is  an industry expert in family & special needs travel.
